What to see and do
Amsterdam in depth
Amsterdam is surprisingly small for such a culturally rich city. The Rijksmuseum houses Rembrandt and Vermeer. The Van Gogh Museum has the largest collection of the artist. Anne Frank House is a must-visit. The canals (Herengracht, Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht) are best explored by boat. Jordaan neighbourhood has galleries, cafes, and independent shops. De Pijp and Oud-Zuid are the coolest neighbourhoods to live like a local.
Where to stay
Centrum to be in the historic heart. Jordaan for authentic, boutique atmosphere. De Pijp for young, multicultural vibe. Oud-Zuid for elegance and museum proximity. Amsterdam East for alternative and affordable.
Getting around
The bicycle is king in Amsterdam. Rent one at the central station and join the local rhythm. Trams cover the center efficiently. For the airport (Schiphol), the train is direct in 15 min from Centraal. Walking along the canals is a pleasure.
