What to see and do
Barcelona: art and sea
Barcelona is the only European city where you can see a Modernist masterpiece, eat tapas in a century-old market, and swim in the Mediterranean on the same day. Gaudí's Sagrada Familia is Spain's most visited monument. Park Güell offers surreal views. The Gothic Quarter is a medieval labyrinth of alleys and hidden squares. La Boquería on La Rambla is a feast for the senses.
Where to stay
El Born for design, galleries, and nightlife. Gràcia for a village vibe within the city. Barceloneta to be by the sea. Eixample for Modernist architecture. Poble Sec for alternative and affordable.
Getting around
Metro and bus cover the entire city. T-Casual (10 trips) is the most practical option. Barcelona is very walkable, especially the center. Bicing bikes are economical (annual subscription). The Montjuïc funicular offers panoramic views.
