What to see and do
What to see in Paris
Paris is a city best explored on foot. Start with the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars, then stroll down the Champs-Élysées to the Arc de Triomphe. The Louvre houses the Mona Lisa and thousands more masterpieces. Don't miss Le Marais with its galleries and cafés. At sunset, climb Montmartre for views from the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. End the day with a Seine River cruise at nightfall.
Where to stay
Le Marais (3rd and 4th arrondissement) is ideal for first-timers: central, charming, and well-connected. Saint-Germain-des-Prés (6th) is elegant and literary, perfect for café lovers. Montmartre (18th) offers spectacular views and a bohemian vibe. On a budget, the 11th arrondissement around Bastille has modern hostels and vibrant nightlife.
Getting around
The Paris Metro is one of the world's most efficient with 16 lines connecting the entire city. A 10-ticket carnet is more economical. Buses offer city views. For short distances, Vélib' (public bikes) are perfect. Taxis are expensive; use them only at night or to the airport.
