What to see and do
The island of Teide
Tenerife has two faces. The south (Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos) is the sun and beach tourism paradise with all services. The north (Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava) shows green, cultural Tenerife. Teide (3,715m) is Spain's highest peak and one of the world's most visited volcanoes — a cable car reaches near the summit. Teide National Park is UNESCO Heritage. Anaga's laurisilva forest is a unique tertiary forest.
Where to stay
Costa Adeje for luxury resorts and artificial beaches. Los Cristianos for more family-friendly and affordable. Puerto de la Cruz for classic tourism and nature. Santa Cruz for the authentic Canarian capital. El Médano for windsurfing and kitesurfing lovers.
Getting around
Renting a car is best for exploring the island (very competitive prices). Guaguas (TITSA buses) connect main points. Teide cable car ascends from 2,356m to 3,555m in 8 min.
